Mission
Food for All NYC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was created with an aim to redistribute excess fresh foods from schools to those in need around New York City. We utilize food pantries, community meal centers, and community fridges around New York City to help us push our vision of a healthier, more collaborative, and less wasteful city – one meal at a time.
Impact
- Educated hundreds about food insecurity
- Connected with numerous schools to start chapters and food security initiatives around the city
- Donated >24,000 food items / >10,000 lbs of food
- Connected with and directly inspired individuals in the Department of Education to create new regulations regarding sustainable practices regarding school food
My Involvement
As President and Chief Technology Officer of Food For All NYC and the president of the Stuyvesant chapter, I contribute to our cause in a couple of ways:
- Leading routine food deliveries at my school to local community fridges and food pantries
- Educating others on food insecurity and the importance of this work
- Speaking with directors within the NYC Department of Education to establish rules that reduce food waste
- Designing and building an app to help minimize food waste
Schools I've Directly Connected with:
Bronx School of Science
P.S. 527 – East Side School for Social Action
Bard High School Early College
Millennium Brooklyn High School
I’ve spoken to students/faculty at these schools to help them set up food rescue programs. I’ve also given presentations to numerous other schools about Food For All NYC, educating them about our cause and steps they can take to start initiative.
Establishing City-wide Regulations:
Spoke to leaders in the Office of Food and Nutrition Services to guide the development of a new policy that would allow all public schools in NYC to donate leftover food from their cafeteria

After being approached by directors in the New York City Department of Education who had seen our work showcased online, they shared that we had greatly inspired them to enact a city-wide policy change. At the time, schools were mandated to through away all excess food from the cafeteria at the end of each day. However, after we continued to meet with the head director responsible for food and nutrition services policy, they rolled out a new piece of the Food Waste Plan called the Food Donation plan, allowing principals to set up programs donating surplus food from their school cafeterias.
Food For All NYC App
I developed a purpose-built application designed specifically to tackle food insecurity and food waste in New York City. This app won the 2023 Congressional App Challenge!
- Connecting Organizations: The app links restaurants, delis, grocery stores, school cafeterias, and event planners with food banks, food pantries, food rescue programs, and nonprofits.
- Preventing Food Waste: It ensures surplus food reaches those in need instead of going to waste.
- Platform for Surplus Food: Organizations can list and find surplus food, creating essential connections to combat food insecurity.
- Resources for Individuals: Offers resources to help individuals find food and includes a map of compost bins to address food waste.
